Dr. Elias Papazissis has dedicated his 40-year career to pioneering new paths in medicine and patient care systems.
His innovative models for home hospital care, coding of medical history and physical examination findings, along with his global patents and creative teaching methods for challenging clinical techniques, are some of the highlights of his career.
Educational Background
Dr. Elias Papazissis studied Medicine at the University of Athens and continued his education with postgraduate studies at the University of West Attica. He holds a degree in Hygiene and specialized in Community Medicine and General Family Medicine.
Professional Experience
He began his career at Hippocrateion Hospital and G. Gennimatas Hospital, where he specialized in General Family Medicine.
Pioneering Innovations
In 1990, Dr. Papazissis introduced the groundbreaking “Hospital at Home” secondary care system in Greece. He founded the company “TELEIATRIKI”, which received international recognition, including the e-Europe Award from the European Union. In 2004, he organized the International Medical Conference “Bringing Modern Medicine Into Homes” in Dubai, UAE.
Advancements in ICT Technology
From 1997 to 2007, he collaborated with ATKOSoft to develop the advanced information system “FRONTIS” for medical patient monitoring. This system gained acclaim as one of the best in Europe and was acquired by Ygeia Hospital in 2006.
Dr. Papazissis also developed the IMPACT © system (Intelligent Medical Patient Record and Coding Tool) for coding medical histories and clinical findings. Additionally, he created the CONTROL TOWER © software, designed for rapid, simultaneous monitoring of many patients.
Inventions and Patents
He holds several international patents for medical devices he invented, such as:
- A bed-weighing machine for bedridden patients
- Disposable IV stands
- A tissue cooling device with internal chilled water circulation in a sterile probe
- An automatic device for multiple sequential subcutaneous injections for cellulite treatment
- A system for the safe simultaneous performance of gastrostomy and jejunal feeding tube placement
Commitment to Telemedicine
In 2003, Dr. Papazissis founded the non-profit organization IRITEL (International Research Institute for Telemedicine), where he currently serves as President. He has organized medical missions to small Aegean islands, ensuring healthcare access where services are limited.
Organizer of National and International Conferences
He has hosted three National Conferences on General Family Medicine and Emergency Out-of-Hospital Medicine in Athens, focusing on practical training in interventional techniques.
Organized the International Medical Conference “Bringing Modern Medicine Into Homes” in Dubai, UAE in 2004.
In 2024, he established the National Safe Inn Conference aimed at raising awareness and vigilance within the hotel industry in Greece regarding safety issues.
